Overview William Morgan Fowler, Jr. was born on July 25, 1944 in Clearwater, FL. He received his B.A. from Northeastern University in 1967, married Marilyn Louise Noble on August 11, 1968, and received a Master's degree in 1969 and a Ph. D. in 1971 from University of Notre Dame. Fowler was a history professor at Northeastern University from 1971 until 1998, when he resigned as the History Department Chair to become the Director of the Massachusetts Historical Society for 8 years.
