The collection consists of litigation relating to bilingual education in the Boston Public Schools and out-of-state bilingual education cases from New York and California. The records are from Alan J. Rom from the Boston Bar Associations Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights under the Law, and Roger Rice of the Multicultural Education, Training and Advocacy Inc. (META). Records include court documents (i.e. exhibits, pleadings, transcripts, etc.), correspondence, memoranda, curricula, newspaper clippings and articles, Comprehensive School Plans progress reports and Bilingual Education Status reports, Boston Public Schools Title I monitoring forms, and Voluntary Lau Compliance Plans. The collection is unprocessed. Multicultural Education, Training and Advocacy Inc. (META) is a national organization based in Somerville, MA, that advocates for equal educational opportunities for immigrant, low-income, and non-English speaking children. Accessioned 2013 May 29. Material originally stored at META, Inc. offices in Somerville and boxed by Alan Rom. Some boxes have container lists.
