Photographs Video Tapes The collection consists of records of Positive Directions, Inc. and the organization it merged with in 1996, Northern Lights Alternatives New England, Inc., from inception to its closing in 2002, and includes administration, fund-raising, and program files. The collection is unprocessed. Positive Directions was a non-profit organization sponsoring alternative education and support programs, including AIDS Mastery workshop for people living with AIDS, their caretakers, service providers, family and friends.Positive Directions, Inc. was founded in 1987 to improve the quality of life and longevity for people living with HIV/AIDS. Staff and volunteers of the grassroots organization provided information, counseling, employment assistance, advocacy, and access to community resources for individuals with HIV or those directly affected by HIV. In addition, the organization actively monitored advances in medical treatment for HIV/AIDS. In 1996, Northern Lights Alternatives, which was founded in 1989 to improve the emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being of people affected by HIV/AIDS, merged with Positive Directions to from one organization. Positive Directions closed in 2002. Accessioned 2002 Dec 20. Client files remain at Iron Mountain. Box list in electronic control files on the Archives SharePoint site. AIDS Mastery Workshop material needs careful appraisal. Requests for Proposals, telephone legs, and Love of Life Wish files were discarded. 51/1-4
