The collection consists of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society member lists, initiation ceremony programs, logistics for events, and handbooks. The collection is unprocessed. Northeastern University was granted a charter for the national honor society Phi Kappa Phi in 1963. Founded in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi recognizes scholarship in all areas of academic endeavor. The Northeastern chapter was established as part of the effort to strengthen the College of Liberal Arts. The society co-sponsored with NU's Council on Research and Scholarship the first Scholarship Day held on May 11, 1978, during which regular classes were replaced with special colloquiums addressing faculty members' recent research. Continued as an annual tradition, the name was changed to Scholars' Day in 1985 and later included forums for students to explicate their scholarly endeavors. Accessioned 2012 Aug 20.
