Related issues were used by the Coalition to Stop Institutional Violence for background information, networking, and as a resource library. The material offers a glimpse into the activities of various anti-institutional violence and anti-prison groups in the 1970s and 1980s. Included are articles, brochures, newsletters and reports relating to issues on anti-racism, deinstitutionalization, the Department of Mental Health and of Youth Services (Massachusetts), feminist therapies, involuntary commitment, mental health and mental patients, prisons, psychotherapy, sterilization and women and violence (Box 9-14, Folders 156-300). There is material on several support committees for prisoners including Ella Ellison (Box 11, Folders 228, Box 13, Folder 287), Jay Freeman (Box 11, Folder 233), the Norfolk-Walpole strike (Box 11, Folder 240, Box 13, Folder 288), Willie Sanders (Box 12, Folder 252) and Susan Saxe (Box 12, Folder 246 and Box 14, Folder 300).
