This series documents Phyllis M. Ryan's work for social justice causes and political campaigns during the 1960s and 1970s. Records are arranged according to the organizations with which she was affiliated. In particular, the series documents the evolution of her social justice activities commencing with her support for civil rights (including movements against racial discrimination in housing and local public schools), continuing with advocacy of prison reform and welfare rights, and leading to efforts for disability rights. It includes press releases, media coverage, correspondence, reports, newsletters, campaign literature, and administrative records of civil rights organizations, social justice movements, and political candidates.
