This series documents Nelson Merced's work as a Representative in the Massachusetts state government from 1988 through 1992. The material includes notes and minutes from various committees of which he was a member, including the Latino Democratic Committee and the Minority Business Committee. There are also agendas, programs, publicity materials, and correspondence from non-state organizations, such as the Massachusetts Black Legislative Caucus and the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials. Topics documented include bilingual education, immigration, the Massachusetts state budget, and the Boston public school system. Records include minutes, notes, clippings, fact sheets, reports, grants, bills, legislative drafts, and video recordings of House debates in which Merced participated.
