Summer Institute

 File

Summary:

From the Series:

This series documents the educational programming offered by the Women's Institute for Leadership Development (WILD), most notably its annual Summer Institute and WILD in the Winter events. At each Summer Institute or WILD in the Winter, WILD offered a variety of participatory workshops and caucuses on topics such as racism, sexual harassment and domestic violence, negotiation, and leadership. WILD also offered educational programming outside of its two annual events. The files in Series 2 are arranged in three chronological sequences: Summer Institute, WILD in the Winter, and Other Programs.

Summer Institute files contain records relating to the planning, educational content, and activities of the annual weekend-long program. Summer Institute planning is documented through minutes from the program committee and other committees, correspondence and contracts between WILD and the hosts of the events, and outreach to and training of workshop instructors. Educational content is documented through copies of the registration packets given to participants of the Summer Institute. The content of individual workshops and caucuses is documented through agendas and outlines for participants and leaders, copies of materials handed out to participants, and background information such as articles. These sessions included "Run, Sister, Run," a workshop helping women to run for elected positions in their unions, an anti-racism discussion group for white women, and recurring workshops on union basics, sexual harassment, racism, and leadership. The Summer Institute files also include evaluations from participants and instructors.

WILD in the Winter files document the planning and educational content of these one-day events. These records include committee minutes, correspondence and contracts with the event hosts, outreach to and training of instructors and workshop leaders, registration packets and other material given to participants, workshop agendas and outlines, and evaluations from participants and instructors. WILD in the Winter session topics included anti-globalization and immigrant rights workshops in addition to a selection of WILD's standard workshops addressing leadership and women's workplace issues.

Other Programs contains mainly curricula; these files have been grouped according to the topic of the educational program, including diversity, sexual harassment, and leadership development. Also included are files relating to caucus groups, evaluations of programs, records pertaining to event logistics, information about regional events, registration information, and teacher recruitment and training.
