Scope and Contents
The aerial negatives date from circa 1955-1964 and document cities and towns in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Rhode Island, and corresponding infrastructure and industrial and commercial properties. The negatives were acquired as part of FayFoto Boston's acquisition of Lenscraft Photo in 1971. The majority of the series is of Greater Boston and documents the construction of Interstate 93, the Central Artery, the Expressways, and the Prudential Center. In addition, represented landmarks include the Boston Commons; Custom House; Copley Square; Logan International Airport; colleges and universities; waterfront, harbor, and islands; and military installations. Clients include real estate firms W. H. Ballard Company; C. W. Whittier; and Cabot, Cabot, and Forbes; the advertising firm Gerald F. Burke; the Massachusetts Port Authority; and Boston Globe journalist Harry Stanton who covered transportation news including highway plans.
