Overview Northeastern University was granted a charter for the national honor society Phi Kappa Phi in 1963. Founded in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi recognizes scholarship in all areas of academic endeavor. The Northeastern chapter was established as part of the effort to strengthen the College of Liberal Arts.
