Overview

Miren Uriarte is a sociologist and professor emerita of Human Services and Latino Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston. These papers document her work as a sociologist and her dissertation research on the Latino community of Boston, Massachusetts. She collected publications and organizational records pertaining to the Latino community and conducted interviews with community leaders to support her research.

Overview Nelson Merced, a Latino politician and activist, was born in New York City in 1948. Merced first became politically active in Puerto Rico in the early 1970s, working with squatters in San Juan. He moved back to the United States to attend the University of Connecticut, graduating with a bachelor's degree in anthropology.
