Joseph E. Aoun, the seventh president of Northeastern University, has served from 2006-present. Born in Lebanon, Aoun received his Masters in Oriental Languages and Literature from the Université Saint-Joseph, Beirut, Lebanon, in 1975, and his Ph.D. in Linguistics from MIT in 1981. Aoun joined the faculty of the University of Southern California's Department of Linguistics in 1982, and held the position of Dean of USC's College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences for six years before coming to Northeastern. Thank you letter from commencement speaker Gen. Colin Powell and commemorative photo books for 2012 honorary degree recipients, 2011 Veterans Memorial, Class of 2011 Torch Scholars, Mark L. Putnam (former Senior VP for Executive Affairs), and Mary Lackovich (Universal Ambassador of Peace).
