Summary:
This series contains non-print material that documents the Boston-Bouvé College. An important part of this series are the photographs taken by students, faculty, and professional photographers of official and unofficial life at Boston-Bouvé College. Photographs from the first decades of the school show students in the 1920s and 30s at summer camp, a required part of the Boston School of Physical Education's program. Many photographs document students participating in the same sporting events over several decades. Other photographs record important events like class days and school dances. The photographs also include formal portraits of classes and sports teams. Negatives that could be matched with prints have been kept with the prints, while the rest are located with other unmatched negatives. Photographs that were collected by one person or accompany the personal material of faculty and alumnae are in Series 7.
Audio material consists of cassette recordings of speeches given by Dean Allen, Dean Lynn, and others at professional conferences. The series also contains oral histories with graduates from 1938-39 as well as interviews with faculty. A recording of Chancellor Asa Knowles provides information about the merger between the Bouvé-Boston School of Physical Education and Northeastern University in 1964.
Microfilm in this series contains speeches about physical and recreation education by Catherine Allen and reference materials she used for these speeches.
The films in this series are of events and summer camp during the 1960s and examples for the Physical Education and Physical Therapy departments. These films include examples of kicks, jump shots, sprints, and other sport-related moves. The numbers affixed to canisters in Athletics and Physical Therapy subseries were preexisting and provided by Boston-Bouvé College. The general slides in Box 89 comprise images of athletic events (including field hockey and skiing) and alumni events.
